What counts as a paragraph?
Any line break ends a paragraph, and blank lines are skipped. That matches how Word and Google Docs count paragraphs when you press Enter.
Why is my paragraph count far too high?
Text copied from a PDF often has a hard line break at the end of every visual line. Use Remove Line Breaks with "keep paragraphs" to rejoin the lines, then count again.
How long should a paragraph be?
For web reading, three to five sentences is a common guideline; on phones, shorter paragraphs are easier to scan. Academic writing usually runs longer.
